Support Your Local Author Community This Season

The pleasure derived from quietly relaxing and reading a good book is wonderful at this very busy time of the year. Stolen moments enjoyed between the pages of a good book is something we can all use these days...

I am blessed to be part of more than one wonderful writing community. All year round I do watch what becomes available from my fellow writers and I try to support them, when I can. Although I spend more time writing these days than actually reading, I do sometimes pickup or download works from fellow writers throughout the year.

This holiday season why not support some of your local authors by purchasing their written works by download or in print? You might want a great book to give as a gift for someone, or maybe...you might just like to purchase something special as a gift for yourself?

Although I enjoy the tactile feel of holding a paper book to read, I will admit, in the past few years, I am geared up more now into purchasing downloadable books. I love the ease of having the books on my iPad and phone, so I can enjoy reading what I like anywhere easily. I am also a huge fan of audiobooks, and love just curling up with a set of headphones on to enjoy a good audiobook.

I love the fact that my brother and sister-in-law have declared a window of time during their day, following their regular working hours, to just sit and read. My brother speaks highly of the time curled up with a book after dealing with his often busy day. I think it is marvelous that the two of them carve out that precious time to just curl up and read and destress. How Lovely!

My schedule is much less hectic than theirs, and so, I have the luxury of time to just read pretty much whenever I choose. Lately though, I am having a fabulous time writing a Christmas story, and that is consuming most of my free time right now. I can get blissfully lost in my writing for hours every day, always in the morning hours, as I sip my coffee and beyond, (my regular writing time), and often again mid-afternoon and/or into the night as I might be reclining in bed. When I'm into it, I only seem to stop when my fingers and shoulders are screaming to have me stop typing!

And so, I suggest to you, as we think of gifts at this time of the year, don't forget to think about books, because a good book can be ejoyed by a loved one for hours. Think about buying local, and supporting those in your writing community. Books make a fabulous gift, and there is always something of interest in every topic and for everyone!

Happy book gift giving! Cheers! Lise
