In Remembrance
Sharing a few moments today to honour those who fought for us...
*
In Remembrance
I remember those who fought for me,
Fought for the rights and freedoms of this country,
Who risked their lives on the battlefields,
Who marched for us, our flag, their shields.
I commemorate those who lost their lives,
The men, the women, the husbands, the wives,
Those brave people who stood up and fought,
And for one's they left behind distraught.
I honour them on this Remembrance Day,
Poppy to chest to display my say,
Where men fought and fell and now poppies grow,
McCrae's words, In Flanders Fields, row upon row.
And to remember those who fought in later wars,
Who fought again for my rights and yours,
Today we gather and meet to pay our respect,
And stand in silence to honour and reflect.
To lay the wreaths upon the cenotaph,
The monuments that represent lives past,
A moment of silence to honour those who fought,
Before stepping back to properly to march off.
In rain or shine, in sleet or snow,
Many step out today to make a show,
To honour those who fought for our rights,
War heroes, those souls, that forever shine bright.
